Todd Jameson was raised on a ‘truck farm’ in New Jersey and was a founding farmer at the NYC Greenmarkets in 1976. He and Kathleen farmed on their home property for 8 years before moving to new farmland in 2008.  They are proud of the heirloom varieties they choose to grow and believe that the best vegetables start with the best soil. You can find their produce at farmers markets and through their CSA.

What is your growing philosophy?
Working with nature we produce seasonal vegetable and herbs that are non-GMO, full flavored and nutritious. Many of out vegetables are rarely found in the commercial marketplace such as cardoon, salsify and wild arugula.  We believe in regaining food traditions and expanding on biodiversity.

What is your favorite part of being an organic farmer?
Connecting people with foods that they consider new or unusual or reconnecting people with a food from their past that in recent years they have been unable to obtain.

What is your least favorite part?
The ongoing battle against weeds.

Why did you choose to farm using sustainable methods?
You are what you eat.  Although we are not certified organic we do produce in the synthetic chemical and fertilizer free style because we believe healthy soil is essential to producing health vegetables. Sustainability is key and only obtainable whey you’re building soil as done in synthetic-free farming.

What makes your farm special?
Years of experience and tradition makes us different from many others.  I’ve been a grower since 1972 and was taught by European masters who worked with the rhythmus of nature and the seasons.  We have a passion for our work and our work is our life.

Where do you see you business to be in the next year? 5 years 10 years?
We plan expand to 5 acres in 2009 and then expand to 10 acres in 2010.  The expansion will continue until we reach 15 acres.  We plan to begin entering the Chicago marketplace once we have increased our acreage and production in an attempt to connect with an audience that is more familiar with the crops we raise.
