Brad Dearing is the owner of Dearing Country Farms where his 30 acres of land produce an abundant variety of healthy foods for local customers to buy. He raises about 300 chickens for meat and organic eggs and grows a full variety of seasonal produce, tree fruit, berries and melons. Other products include flowers, wheatgrass, nuts and herbs.

Dearing Country Farms products can be purchased at the farm and also local farmers markets.

Why have you chosen to produce organic?
It is healthier for us and there is more market demand. It helps health-conscious individuals and it is better for our environment. I believe in humane treatment of animals.

What’s your favorite part of being an organic farmer?
I like working the earth sustainably. There is always fresh, ready to eat food around the house. The higher prices I receive from organically grown products help with the financial situation on the farm which in turn helps my wife be a stay-at-home mom.

What makes your farm special?
It’s close to town, we started from scratch to live the dream and we have a great variety of products.

How would you like to see your farm grow?
We want a good customer base, an on-farm store, possibly a CSA, and steady volunteers.
