Deer Creek Organics
2825 E. 7500 S. Rd.
St. Anne, IL 60964
Jeff Franklin owns Deer Creek Organics, a 20-acre vegetable farm currently in transition to certified organic. The Franklins have farmed in St. Anne for over 100 years. In 2007, Jeff took part of the family land and turned it into an organic vegetable farm. He has worked in horticulture and vegetable farming for years, applies no chemicals, and uses sustainable farming practices to keep the soil clean and natural.
Jeff’s wife, Lisa, brother and his wife, John and Lorene, daughter, sister and many nieces and nephews have all helped on the farm. The Franklins grow an array of fresh traditional and unique vegetables including bekana, boc choi, celeriac, watermelon radishes, parsley root, peas, bean sprouts, parsnips, spinach, turnips, cabbage, shallots, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and more.
Deer Creek Organic produce is available direct to consumers through the Kankakee Farmer’s Market, the Manteno Farmer’s Market and a roadside stand in Aroma Park, Illinois. Or, you can place an order on their website ahead of time. Deer Creek Organics is currently looking for places to sell wholesale in Chicago. The family is excited about scheduling tours for the farm this summer, which will include picking a vegetable, washing it with our sprayers, and learning about farming through hands-on activities.
I believe it is possible to take good care of the land, while providing an adequate income for family and local employees.
The first part of spring when plants start to grow, seeing new signs of new life after a dead winter.
The family environment, mostly working with my young adult nephews. We have a lot of fun with vegetables together. Farming is helping finance their way through college. We believe in bringing healthy food to families, keeping the soil healthy and building a vibrant and healthy local community.
