There currently are two newly open positions for contract employees (2018 Good Food Expo Programming and 2018 Good Food Expo/Good Food Financing and Innovation Conference Sponsorship Sales) and two open positions for full-time staff employees (Market Development Manager and Marketing & Communications Coordinator). All of these positions and their requirements are described below in detail.

Good Food Expo Programming

Independent Contractor

Status: Contractual with seasonal variation in hours, based in downtown Chicago. Onsite availability required for upcoming Good Food Expo, which takes place March 23-24, 2018 at Chicago’s UIC Forum.

Position Description: FamilyFarmed is seeking an independent contractor to manage programming for the 14th annual Good Food Expo, which is the oldest and largest trade show and festival focused on local and sustainable food. Applicants should have experience in the industry surrounding Good Food, which we define as delicious, healthy and accessible food that is locally sourced from family farmers who sustainable, humane and fair practices. Main responsibilities will be to develop and design a schedule and plan for both days of the 2018 Good Food Expo, including identifying speakers and topics. The position requires a candidate who has a strong, well-rounded knowledge of the Good Food movement. Contractor will report to FamilyFarmed’s CEO.

Contractor will have existing industry contacts and 5-7 years of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Solicit potential speakers and secure participation.
  • Encourage speaker promotion of the event
  • Communicate ideas and work with identified Good Food Expo team members (i.e. marketing, ticketing, operations, website posting, accounting, etc.
  • Oversee and review all program- and speaker-related content for marketing and printed material
  • Provide input on marketing and promotional elements related to programming
  • Coordinate speaker requirements with assistance from the programming administrator/assistant
  • Coordinate details for a creative and productive attendee experience throughout each day
  • Formulate business relationships with speakers
  • Provide written follow-up and review of outcomes

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good Food industry experience working with farmers, businesses and food systems stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and customer communications skills
  • Excellent analytical, communication, managerial, relationship development and problem‐solving skills, including skills to write, edit, proofread and tailor outreach to different audiences using various means of communication

Events Sponsorship Sales

Independent Contractor

Onsite availability required for upcoming Good Food Expo, which takes place March 23-24, 2018 at Chicago’s UIC Forum, and the Good Food Financing & Innovation Conference, which will take place in June 2018 in Chicago (exact date and location are To Be Determined). The Expo and Conference are collectively known as “Events.”

Position Description: FamilyFarmed is seeking an independent contractor to promote and sell sponsorships for two marquee FamilyFarmed events: the Good Food Expo and the Good Food Financing & Innovation Conference. Applicants should have experience in the industry surrounding Good Food, which we define as delicious, healthy and accessible food that is locally sourced from family farmers and producers who use sustainable, humane and fair practices. Contractor will have existing industry contacts and 2-3 years of experience securing event sponsorships and/or fundraising. Small-shop nonprofit experience preferred. Main responsibilities will be to generate sponsorship revenue through new sponsors and to grow existing sponsorships. The position requires a candidate who has a strong commitment to the Good Food movement and is capable of communicating the benefits and value of event sponsorship. Individual will report to the Development Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifying new relationships and developing new and existing relationships
  • Securing new corporate and foundation sponsors for both events
  • Renewing and increasing existing sponsor investments
  • Coordinating all aspects of sponsorship contracts, including administration, activation and fulfillment, invoicing and post-event reporting

Specific to the Events, tasks will include:

  • Formulate business relationships and new clients through cold-calling, referrals, networking and company visits
  • Coordinate and execute the development, delivery and presentation of sponsorship proposals and materials to support the sponsorship initiative
  • Foster client relationships to create a mutually beneficial partnership and generate additional revenue
  • Manage the renewal process for existing sponsors
  • Oversee collection efforts for sponsorship sales
  • Support sponsorship tactical implementation and activation at both events
  • Provide input on marketing and promotional elements related to sponsorships
  • Responsible for development of current and new sponsorship prospects to build and manage a sustained pipeline of opportunities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the sales process and a strong general sales acumen

Market Development Manager

Full-time Staff Position

Position Details

Full-time, permanent, salaried, exempt employee. Compensation is nonprofit competitive and commensurate with experience and skill-level.

Summary + Objective 

The Market Development Manager partners with FamilyFarmed’s CEO, Development and Marketing + Communications teams to develop and execute integrated strategic sales and partnership initiatives. This position requires extensive experience creating market development strategies, project management, strong presentation skills, an established network and the ability to deliver both short-term and long-term results while working independently and with others.

The Market Development Manager will build relationships with trade buyers and regional Good Food Producers to educate stakeholders and increase Good Food product sales in the Midwest. As a result of these relationships, buyers and sellers of Good Food will be active in the Good Food EXPO, Good Food Financing and Innovation Conference, Good Food Accelerator, and other FamilyFarmed programs (including government grant-funded projects).

The Market Development Manager is responsible for planning and implementing sponsorship sales and procuring partners for FamilyFarmed special events.

The Market Development Manager is responsible for collaborating with other FamilyFarmed staff to ensure mission and funding alignment of market development activities.

Essential Functions 

  • Stewardship of existing sponsors/partners and securing new sponsors/partners
  • Developing sponsorship collateral materials
  • Sponsorship Sales and deliverable fulfillment
  • Implementing metrics tracking systems to track market development efforts and generating relevant reports through CRM system
  • Identifying and developing a database of prospective Good Food buyers and producers to target for sales and promotional efforts
  • Engaging Good Food buyers and encouraging them to buy product from local producers
  • Assisting producers in developing new products and sales strategies
  • Working with buyers and producers to assess current and new market opportunities
  • Managing programs pertaining to all market development activities in which FamilyFarmed engages, including staff, budget and reporting management
  • Engaging with other internal market systems practitioners and mentors through public speaking opportunities, webinars, peer-to-peer networking events, learning forums, e-discussions, delivery of case studies; and developing and maintaining online tools for potential collaboration
  • Taking the lead in recruiting buyers and sellers to participate in the Good Food EXPO and other events that connect players in the supply chain
  • Assisting in development of new events to connect Good Food buyers and sellers
  • Developing short-term and long-term integrated strategic marketing plans to build sales of Good Food that align with the goals and objectives of FamilyFarmed and its programs

Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Full-time Staff Position

Position Details

Summary + Objective 

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager and supports the implementation and execution of FamilyFarmed’s marketing and communications plan. This position is responsible for the graphic design, layout and formatting of marketing collateral, social media/web graphics, and web/brand development assets which may integrate typographic, photographic, illustrative and graphic elements. This position develops original content and suggests creative ways to attract more customers and promote our brand, to ultimately increase web traffic and customer engagement metrics aligned with broader marketing strategies and FamilyFarmed’s mission. This position coordinates FamilyFarmed’s social media presence by creating, building and maintaining a strong online following and implementing our online marketing strategy through social media accounts.

Essential Functions 

  • Maintain and update multiple websites.
  • Provide high-quality, dynamic creative that adheres to branding standards.
  • Perform analytics and prepare reports.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot feedback from public users.
  • Planning/designing/executing Facebook ads and boosts.
  • Write, compile, edit and regularly send e-newsletters to general and specific audiences in email marketing program. Manage e-marketing calendar and software program and monitor e-marketing reports.
  • Implement our Marketing and Communications plan: duties to include assisting with marketing and outreach by posting to listservs and circulating content to partner organizations; assisting with rebranding process; streamlining internal communications processes and brand collateral; updating information on external websites; monitoring usage, metrics and impact as it relates to marketing and communications activities; and, maintaining marketing files such as photos, logos, documents and other graphics.
  • Manage photo library and routinely pull, edit, resize, crop and post graphics and photos.
  • Assist with preparing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Table at events representing the organization.
  • Contribute to ongoing efforts to streamline and improve systems and processes.
  • Create and coordinate production schedules and maintain ongoing relationships with graphic designers, printers and photographers.
  • Evaluate and negotiate vendor contracts including graphic designers and photographers.
  • Manage ad creation (web and print), oversee and daily manage marketing assets (design and development).
  • Manage art direction for postcards, web banner ads and other miscellaneous design.
