Futters Nut Butters

PO Box 4934
Buffalo Grove, IL 60089

The Futterman family, Jody and Howard, which also includes daughter Brittany, makes a personal commitment to the quality of their products and purchases nuts and seeds directly from small farmers whenever possible. They are also passionate about the fact that their products are very nutritious. The nut butters are high in protein, soluble fiber, vitamin E, copper, potassium, B vitamins, and many more beneficial things. They are also low in saturated fats and in net carbs–which might interest a lot of people these days–and contain no preservatives, oils, or additives.

All natural and organic Futters Nut Butters are available in any nut you favor: almond, cashew, brazil, and macadamia, to name a few. Pumpkin and sunflower seed spreads are also in the repertoire, as well as such flavor combos as cherry almond, orange cashew, and chocolate cherry almond hazelnut. They have also added some vegan nut confections.

Why is producing organic food a priority for your family?
There is a real need for different nut butters other than peanut. Other manufacturers tend to heat their nuts when grinding, so it is easy for them to “pour” them into plastic jars. The taste, vitamins and textures suffer. I wanted fresh tasting unadulterated real food, so I had to make them myself. I needed to have control over the production. [I needed] to be able to produce something on a small scale, all the while making sure the facility stays peanut free, gluten free, dairy free, clean, vegan and using glass and practicing sustainability.

What is your favorite part of being an organic processor?
The people, our customers, who value the same principles for their families’ food and bodies that I do. I also like the creativity I can use every day.

What makes your business and products special?
We gently process our nuts into nut butters. We try to maintain everything special about the raw product. The ground nuts should stand up in freshness and taste on their own without adding preservatives, sugars, salts, etc.

Why did you chooose to be organic?
I've been using organic practices for over 35 years. I became extremely conscious of it 33 years ago when I started a family and only wanted the best for my children.

Where can consumers get your products?
Locally, they are available at a number of retailers, including Chicagoland Whole Foods Markets, Sunset Foods, and Sherwyn’s Health Foods. We are also at area farmers’ markets in Deerfield, Palatine, and Schaumburg.  A wider list of retailers is available on our website, and you can order our products there, too. We sell to healthy meal plan companies and some other mail catalog companies as well as ice cream & gelato makers. We sell to bakeries, and healthy energy bar companies, as our butters are part of their quality ingredients.
