Green Earth Farm

8308 Barnard Mill Rd
Richmond, IL 60071

Kathy and Scott Mor have been farming on their 10 acre plot of land for the past three years.  Their four sons Matt, David, Avi, and Tomi help with various tasks on the farm such as weeding, feeding the animals, and collecting the eggs.  The Mor’s also have a variety of animals that include dogs, cats, sheep, and goats.  Green Earth Farm proudly produces over one hundred varieties of heirloom vegetables in addition to chicken, duck, and turkey.  Their products are available through CSA shares.

Why have you chosen to farm using sustainable methods?
We understand the harm and danger of factory farms, feed lot meat, over use of chemicals, and pesticides.  We want to encourage our community to be aware and care about land sustainability, the environment and the importance of supporting local farmers.

What is your favorite part of being an organic farmer?
Feeling like we are part of the solution instead of a part of the problem.  Also seeing the astonishment of our members when they see what fresh, organic, nutritious produce tastes like.

If you are organic, why did you choose this path?
Buying non-organic products perpetuates our land sustainability crisis – environmental crises.  Besides the long-term health affects of ingesting chemicals and pesticides, it is time for everyone to take a stand to help save our planet.  Buying organic is one step in that direction.

What makes your farm special?
We are small, family run, and an integrated part of our community.  We want to be our community’s farmer.  We believe in what we do and are not trying to get rich in this venture.  We want to bring our children up with a sense of community values through this.

Where do you see you business to be in the next year? 5 years 10 years?
Right now we are supporting 100 CSA members.  We could like to grow to 200-250 members, plus add goat and cow dairy products and maybe a few cattle for meat.
