The Ioergers’ land has been in their family for over 150 years, with Lowell, Janet and crew farming it for the past twenty-five.

Many able-bodied Ioergers work together to keep this farm rolling. While everyone pitches in wherever help is needed, each family member has a specialty. Zachary, works with hogs and grain production. Anya, assists with poultry and produce production. Jacob, tends to the pheasants and produce production. Christina, and Deanna, work with produce and processing. Farm mascots include five dogs–Max, Sadie, Ace, Rex, and Sally–and one cat, who is simply Cat.

This lively operation grows 15 acres of organic produce that includes numerous vegetables along with strawberries, apples, and variety of raspberries. The Ioergers keep hogs and chickens and manage to fit in some corn, wheat and soybeans, too.

Why is growing organic a priority for your family?
I have chosen to produce the best food for my family and to help other people realize that there is food that really tastes like something and is good for you.

What is your favorite part of being an organic farmer?
I like being outside producing something good. And January–no weeds or bugs to fight, and time to rest!

What makes your farm special?
My great-great grandfather worked for the Illinois Central Railroad when they put the tracks into this part of the world. Instead of taking all money for his pay, the railroad gave him 1 acre per day in trade for labor. What insight he had. Through hard work this family has kept at least part of the farm put together. I am proud of that fact.

Where can consumers get your products?
We sell food directly at our farm and are also at the Oak Park Farmers’ Market.
