Wholesale Success Continues with Support from USDA

We’re excited to announce that FamilyFarmed.org has received roughly $300,000 from the Risk Management Agency (RMA) of the USDA to train over 1300 farmers across 11 states as part of our  Wholesale Success Program!

For the past five years, FamilyFarmed.org, our experienced farmer-trainer Atina Diffley, and on-the-ground partners have trained thousands of growers on how to better meet wholesale buyers’ expectations for product quality, consistency and food safety. In 2012 this program was supported by $600,000 in grants from RMA. In total the Wholesale Success program has reached over 6000 farmers.  The workshops draw on our Wholesale Success Manual and our On-Farm Food Safety Project as resources. Topics covered in the workshops include:

Proper Pre/Post-Harvest Handling Techniques • Maintaining the Cold Chain • Cleaning and Drying • Packing and Grading • Developing Relationships with Buyers • On-Farm Food Safety Best Practices • Needs of Wholesale Buyers

Check back soon for dates and locations of our upcoming workshops!
